Il faut attirer l'attention sur le fait que le décret du 11 mars 1999 n'apporte aucune modification à la législation sectorielle relative au bruit308. Comme ce fut le cas pour les permis d'exploiter avant l'entrée en vigueur de la présente réforme, la question des bruits industriels est abordée principalement au travers des permis d'environnement. Les normes en matière de bruit y seront prescrites sous forme de conditions d'exploitation.
Pour les établissements qui ne sont pas soumis à permis d'environnement mais à simple déclaration, la question des nuisances sonores se réglera au travers des conditions générales de l'AGW du 4 juillet 2002 fixant lesPage 289 conditions générales d'exploitation des établissements classés et des conditions sectorielles et intégrales qui doivent encore être édictées par le Gouvernement wallon309.
Les permis d'urbanisme veilleront pour leur part au respect des plans d'aménagement et à la compatibilité du projet du dirigeant d'entreprise avec le respect de la destination générale de la zone et du voisinage310, voire imposeront un dispositif d'isolement destiné à limiter les nuisances sonores pour les riverains.

Ainsi, ne sera pas autorisée en zone d'habitat une entreprise au procédé de fabrication très bruyant - une exploitation forestière par exemple - mettant en action des outillages comme des déchiqueteuses et des écorceuses.
